Spear is കുന്തം in Malayalam. It comes from കുനയുള്ളത് where കുന = മുന, a point. Perhaps, it is one of the earliest forms of weaponry.
The Sanskrit word for spear is പ്രാസം. It means that which can be thrown or projected.
Interestingly, this is the same പ്രാസം that we use in poetry (e.g. ആദിപ്രാസം, അന്തിപ്രാസം ). If you think about it, it is as if the lines of the poem are skewered by the repeating letters.
